Scorpio in Depth
Scorpio's ruler, Mars, represents strength, willpower and endurance - all things Scorpio has in abundance. Most Scorpios are as gentle, caring and generous as they can be hard, cruel, and mean, all depending on how they are treated. Like their mascot, the scorpion, they can turn and lash out viciously, but usually only after they have been harassed or pushed to the limit. If they are rejected, ignored, or treated harshly for no apparent reason, they may strike back, either immediately, with an emotional physical or verbal attack, or with a calculated act of revenge.
They are hard-working, generous and strong-minded. Once they begin something, they are committed to completing it. This leads them to showing extraordinary commitment and devotion to those they love, and can become obsessively devoted to a person, project or cause.
Scorpios are highly sensitive and emotional, and are so easily hurt that they hate to show their feelings for fear of being ridiculed. Because their emotions are so profound and strongly felt, their undesirable traits such as jealousy and possessiveness are hard to control. Intensely loyal themselves, they can neither understand nor accept dishonesty in others. Scorpios do not forgive easily, if at all, and are capable of holding a grudge for the rest of their lives.
Scorpio is often associated with Orpheus, from the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It is also associated with the Greco-Roman gods Ares (Mars). The constellation of Scorpio is also associated with the scorpion that killed Orion.
At Play
The determined nature of Scorpio insists that free time be taken seriously. The tenacity of this sign makes them excellent players in any sport which requires intense concentration and physical endurance, such as weight-lifting, boxing, marathon running, athletics and yoga. The Water element of their sign also draws them to water sports, with scuba diving, swimming, and boating activities suiting them best.
They love to read, and often take up serious studies - especially psychiatry, as they enjoy analyzing the reactions and behaviour of other people. They thoroughly enjoy edgy, gritty television programmes with plenty of violence and bloodshed. They excel at board-games and cards, and love solving puzzles. The incredible mental and physical strength of this sign makes them impressive opponents.
At Work
Scorpios prefer to stay in one place and work quietly at their own efficient pace, and are happiest in professions that require tenacity and dedication. They are not suited to work that requires adaptability or communication skills. Despite their somewhat inflexible approach, they are excellent at organising others and make brilliant, if somewhat demanding, employers. Their astute business sense can also draw them to high finance, stockbroking, and company ownership. Although they are secretive creatures, they are remarkably skilful at prising information from others, making them ideal for psychiatric or detective work. They might take up work as a private detective, police officer, company director, psychiatrist, stockbroker, alternative therapist or undertaker.
Health
Scorpios seem to be prone to minor and major illnesses throughout their lives, despite having a remarkably strong constitution. The recuperative capacity of this sign, however, is excellent and they can easily survive to old age after a number of serious illnesses or operations.
They can achieve great highs or fall to the lowest depths of despair or depravity, and illnesses such as venereal disease, syphilis, and Aids are all related to this sign. Withholding of emotion also causes constipation and other bowel problems. Scorpio men need to take care of their prostate gland, while Scorpio women are prone to womb, vaginal, or menstruation difficulties.
