Aries in Depth

General Qualities

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and has a powerful, raw energy and an instinct for action and leadership. Ruled by Mars, the god of war, Aries is bold, dynamic, assertive, sometimes reckless, but always has faith in their abilities to master problems.

Arian subjects are warm and enthusiastic in their relationships with others - sometimes too much so. Their eagerness can become pushy and seem like aggression. There are some Arians who are domineering, impatient, and quick-tempered, but even the most hyperactive of Aries subjects will calm down if they have to stop and think what they are doing.

Aries loves a challenge and gets bored with too much self-reflection. They are loyal and devoted to loved ones and family, although they always need freedom to pursue their own career and interests.

Most Arian people are straightforward, frank and uncomplicated. Whilst they don't radiate tolerance or kindness, they are exciting, highly demonstrative, generous, and at times, affectionate. They enjoy conflict, and will always stick up for themselves and others, and will instinctively take the lead in most areas of their lives.

Aries is often associated with mythological figure of Theseus, from the Greek myth of the Minotaur, and also with the Greek myth of the ram that carried Athamas's son Phrixus and daughter Helle to Colchis to escape their stepmother.

At Play

Arians crave thrills and adventure, love taking risks, and hate to conform. Their leisure time is usually spent in a wide range of physically taxing activities but because of their lack of concentration, they should not occupy themselves in activities that require a long attention span. They are attracted to hazardous, risky activities, stunts, assault courses, fairgrounds, fast sports, war games, hunting, horses, motorcycles, motor-racing, and any creative channel that combines strength with a small amount of concentration. They are very competitive and usually extremely adept as long as they are allowed to do things at their own high-speed pace and in their own unique style. Aries people hate to lose, and may be prone to tantrums when beaten. Aries subjects who do not fulfil their keen physical urges in energetic activity may become short-tempered or physically abusive.

At Work

Enthusiastic and motivated, Aries at work can be dynamic or catastrophic. Arians hate being told what to do but love to lead others, so are suited to positions of authority. Their energetic nature also draws them toward hazardous occupations and military regimes. They might take up work as a fire fighter, racing driver, executive, police officer, soldier, athlete or film director.

Health

Arians tend to suffer from headaches, particularly migraines, as well as many other problems relating to the face and head. They tend to be accident prone, due to their extreme impulsiveness and careless approach. However, the Arian is also strong and robust and their bodies can tolerate pain more easily than most other signs. All Arians benefit from rest and relaxation, but they are unlikely to sit still for long, believing this to be a sign of weakness or laziness.
