Triplicities
The twelve signs are divided into four groups of three - each called a triplicity. Each one of these groups symbolises an element - Fire, Earth, Air or Water - and is a fundamental characteristic of the Sun sign.
Fire
Signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Pros
Fire signs are active, outgoing and enthusiastic, and posses a real zest for life. They are fiery, ardent, romantic, confident, spontaneous and self-sufficient.
Cons
They can be rather too forceful in their actions and come across as arrogant, bossy or thoughtless. They have no patience for emotionalism or heaviness. They also tend to take credit for things that others have also taken part in.
Earth
Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn
Pros
Earth signs are practical, logical and stable. They like to create a solid world around them, feeling happiest when they are surrounded by possessions.
Cons
They can appear dull, materialistic and greedy.
Air
Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Pros
Air signs are intellectual and communicative. Lively and full of ideas, they need to have the freedom to exercise their inventive minds.
Cons
Although they are usually easy going, they can be verbally abusive when angered. They can be cold, superficial, and impractical.
Water
Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Pros
Water people are intuitive and emotional. Sensitive and passionate in everything they do, Water signs are naturally caring and feel most fulfilled when they are helping others.
Cons
They are secretive, often deeply insecure and unable to show their true feelings. They tend to be susceptible to mood swings, and it takes a while to get to know them.
