Saturn in Depth
This slow moving planet takes two-and-a half years to travel through one sign and twenty nine and a half years to complete a cycle. Saturn's energy is repressive and dense but long lasting, controlling our karmic responsibilities and our capacity to learn about life. It is associated with the principles of limitation, boundaries, reality and practicality. It governs career, ambition, authority and hierarchy, and conforming social structures.
Saturn brings obstacles, pain, trials, loneliness and endings, but by surviving and learning from such trials, we become stronger and can carve out a real identity. Saturn helps us learn persistence, determination and discipline in order to achieve our dreams. Saturn is considered to represent the part of a person concerned with long-term planning.
Saturnine people are serious, cautious and self-controlled. They are also self-reliant, responsible and resourceful, feeling a need to make a useful contribution to society. An excess of Saturn can cause emotional repression, trepidation and a reluctance to accept anything new and original. The Return of Saturn (Saturn return) is said to mark significant events in each person's life.
