Mercury in Depth

In Roman mythology, Mercury was the messenger of the gods, noted for his swiftness. Likewise, Mercury is a swift-moving planet, taking only 88 days to orbit the sun, and spending about 7.33 days in each sign of the zodiac. It directs a restless energy towards us, tending to come in short, sharp bursts.

Governing all methods of communication, it is strongly associated with the more basic levels of the mind, and through it we experience curiosity and apply our minds to communicating and learning. It represents the principles of communication, rationality and reasoning, and also governs schooling and education; transport over short distances; messages and forms of communication such as post, email and telephone; information gathering skills, and physical dexterity.

Mercurial people think fast and talk quickly - they are often extremely intelligent and learned, and are especially active in politics and the theatre. An over emphasis of this influence may mean energy is wasted through too much thinking and talking.
