The Planets

Western Astrology is built on the idea that the solar system is a whole, with each part of that system affecting each other part.

The eight major planets (plus the Sun and Moon) play a vital role in this system, with astrologers believing that the planets represent the basic drives or impulses in our personality. Each planet is also said to be the ruler of one or two zodiac signs, on the basis of a similarity or sympathy between planet and sign.

The ways we try and accomplish these different personality functions are indicated by the Sign the Planet occupies in the horoscope chart, and the areas of life where this plays out is indicated by the House the Planet occupies.
