Aspects

The measurement of various angles and degrees between planets in a birth chart that form easy or difficult relationships known as major or minor aspects. For example, two or more planets placed 120 degrees apart form a major aspect known as a trine which is regarded as beneficial. Other major aspects are the:

  • conjunction (0-8 degrees apart)
  • semi-sextile (30 degrees)
  • sextile (60 degrees)
  • square (90 degrees)
  • quincunx (150 degrees)
  • opposition (180 degrees)

Minor aspects are not deemed to be so important in their influence and involve less obvious degree connections. The most commonly used of these are the:

  • semi-square (45 degrees)
  • sesquiquadrate (135 degrees)
  • quintile (72 degrees)
  • the bi-quintile (144 degrees)
