Aspects of Planets

Whilst planets can apply their influence completely independently, it is also important to recognise the way they interplay with the other planets in the chart. These interactions, known as aspects, are a key factor in a birth chart.

The energies of the planets in the positions of the zodiac in the houses are affected by how the planets are positioned with respect to each other at any time. If two planets are close together - known as 'in conjunction' - they will be forced to work and talk with one another, reinforcing these energies in helpful ways. However, if they stand on opposite sides of the circle they will be 'in opposition' and tend to oppose and contradict one another, bringing about disruptive effects.

These relations between planetary positions are called aspects, and are like relationships. Some are straightforward and simple, whist others are more complex. Aspects provide the finishing touches to the analysis of the birth chart and can be fundamental factors in the formation of someone's character.

In this section, we take a look at the major and minor aspects, and the combination of these aspects that go towards the planetary configurations. There's also a guide to how the different aspects affect the influence of each of the planets, as well as a look at the influence of those planets who do not form any major aspects, known as unaspected.

Unaspected Planets
A planet not forming any of the major aspects with another planet is "unaspected", and can often dominate a chart.
